Top 5 reasons to go to Disneyland Park at Christmastime!

Christmastime at the Disneyland Resort is my absolute favorite! The music, the decor, the food, it’s all so amazing! We were blessed and had a cast member friend get us into Disneyland Park this last weekend. There are so much fun things to see and do, it’s hard to do it all in one day! I wanted to share my top 5 reasons to go to Disneyland Park at Christmastime:

1.     Haunted Mansion Holiday - it’s been a few years since I’ve been on this since my older son was afraid. My son is still afraid but my friend and I took my 1 year old on it. The decor and the effects of this ride are out of this world. My favorite part is how the singing busts turn into singing Jack O Lanterns! Oh and the gingerbread house gets better every year. It feels like you are really immersed in Halloweentown while still riding the Haunted Mansion.

2.     The characters and the photo ops! The tree is magnificent and such a good backdrop for a picture that I think I’m going to use for our Christmas cards! The castle is also decorated and provides a great backdrop for a sweet family picture. The lines of both of these were rather long but the PhotoPass photographers were so efficient, the line moved so fast but while you were taking pictures, it still felt like you had one on one attention and weren’t rushed! I can’t talk about photo ops without talking about characters! The characters are donning their festive winter wear and they look so cute! We had a hard time catching the characters but got a great pic with Chip and Dale. I feel for the cast members manning these lines because there was a lot of people that they had to turn away. I’m bummed we missed Mickey but we will be back one more time before the season is up!

3.     The food! Soooo many fun and yummy options! I had to decide what I was going to try ahead of time since I knew it was going to be busy. I really wanted to try the Santa Hat Macaroon from Jolly Holiday Bakery. Christmas and peppermint just go together to me and so a chocolate peppermint macaroon was the way to go! Let me tell you, it was everything I dreamed it would be. It had just the right amount of chocolate and peppermint. My friend got the Chile Rellano from Rancho del Zocalo. We were so hungry that we forgot to take a picture of it before she ate most of it! She said there was a bit too much sauce but it was still quite tasty!

4.     The decor! Now I may be biased because my friend works in this department but I think the decor is like no other. From the details on the signs and lights to huge Christmas tree, there is no stone not decorated. Even just looking at it makes me happy! Along with the decorations is the amazing music! Christmas carols and music everywhere in the theme of the land, music box music on Main Street USA, western sounding music in Frontierland. That is one of the things I love about Disney the most, you get the full experience every time!

5.     And my final and favorite reason to visit Disneyland Park at Christmastime is (drum roll please)…”it’s a small world holiday”! With little kids, we frequent “it’s a small world” A LOT and it has a special meaning in our family as my mom went on it at the New York World’s Fair. However, during Christmastime, if possible, it becomes even better! Christmas decorations everywhere, Jingle Bells in different languages and traditions all represented in this short ride. I am never organized enough but I’d love to do some of these traditions from other countries with my kids. I’m really going to try to pull it off this year. I will for sure be blogging about it if I do!

There you have it, my top 5 reasons for visit Disneyland Park during Christmastime. This is not a comprehensive list, there are many other reasons why you should visit! What is your favorite part of Christmas at Disney?

Why a Girls Trip to Disneyland is Good for the Soul

As a mom of 2 small children, I rarely even get to go to the bathroom without interruption. My “me” time is mostly my commute to work or maybe 30 minutes after the baby goes to sleep (but I’m usually so tired, I just fall asleep right after she does!) Though I dream of having time to sit and watch TV or sleeping through the night, I know that this is such a fleeting time in life and my kids will never need me this much again. Recently, I did take a whole day to spend with a friend at the Happiest Place on Earth: Disneyland. This recharged me more than I even knew I needed.

I have a friend who lives in Alabama. We had always talked about someday going to Disneyland together as she had never been so when she had to come out here for business, we knew, this was our chance! As this was her first trip and my wonderful husband was willing, I decided to leave the kids at home so I could give her a magical day! It has been years and years since I had a whole day with just a friend. While, I had gone to a Disney event with a friend, it wasn’t the same as having a whole day to be free and have fun. I encourage everyone to have a girls trip to Disneyland and to convince you, here are my top 3 reasons why:

3.  You can go on more rides and experiences.

I had a list of rides my friend wanted to go on. To maximize the (brief) low crowds on this summer Sunday morning, we got to the park at Rope Drop and between that and Max Pass, we hit a good chunk of the major rides in the first 2-3 hours the park was open. With the addition of the new Max Pass, Disneyland has really made it easy to plan your day (even if you bring the kids!). With kids, someone is always hungry/needs a diaper change/has to go potty so it just slows down everything. Plus, kids might have a height restriction limit as well. Without those delays, we could easily go from ride to ride. I know moms will be shocked to hear that we also got to leisurely enjoy a snack!

2.  You get to do what you want.

So many times, with kids, it becomes about doing what they want. Which is really great and I make sure my kids get to experience the magic of Disney every chance I get. But it is fun to get to mix it up and do what you want. Now that doesn’t mean that you aren’t hitting up Fantasyland first thing! I had to bring my breast pump as I am still nursing my daughter and when I asked the Baby Care Center about storing it and told them that I was kid free, they asked where we were going first. I paused and then I answered Peter Pan! And we all had a good laugh about that. After our tour of Fantasyland, we did get to hit up Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain so we did do some of the big rides!

1.       You get to unwind and recharge.

This has been a hectic summer. My son recently changed schools as he is now going to what we are calling “big boy school” (insert sobbing mom face here). And I had been doing a couple events with my side business, The Short Shop. I was exhausted and tense. Cue this trip and I couldn’t believe how well it recharged me. I needed time with a girlfriend to be myself and not mom/wife/employee and just be Kelly again. I have not slept a whole night in really like 5 years. The below picture is not flattering at all but I really believe it shows a relaxed, rejuvenated me.

I am so grateful that I got this opportunity to go to my happy place with a friend and got to show her why it was so magical. I was still energized when I got home and my kids were absolutely over the moon to see me. The best part? I got home and they had waited up for me and I still got to put them to bed. It’s the best of both worlds!

Have you done a Disney trip with just friends? Tell me about it below!

My little Mouseketeer is two!

How quickly time flies! My little boy turned 2 yesterday! It has been such a joy to watch him grow. He is very active and doesn't like to stay still at all. He is also a loving, sweet kid who loves snuggles (for 30 seconds lol) and kisses. Everyday, he amazes us with his vocabulary, he can definitely tell us what he wants. This little guy LOVES Disney and asks for Disneyland every day.

A mama always loves to show pictures and this mama is no different so here are some of the highlights from this past year (anyone who has a toddler will understand why some of these are blurry haha!)
